An emotional Borough playing group swamped coach Allan Godfrey after the final siren after snapping its 10-game losing streak in sensational style.
The Hawks had lost all 10 games this year by an average margin of more than 10 goals, but on Sunday they turned their form around and defeated third-placed Strathfieldsaye 7.5 (47) to 0.1 (1).
"While the scoreboard last week against Golden Square looked like we got a touch-up, apart from 10 minutes at the start and 10 minutes at the end we were competitive,'' Godfrey said.
"The scoreboard looked worse than what it should have been and I went into the Strathfieldsaye game confident that we could go well.
"We had close to our best team of the year on the park and the girls have been showing signs of improvement.
"On the weekend we got some reward for effort. The girls have been resilient all year and they never lost their desire.
"They deserved the win and they were very excited after the game. I'm hoping the win will build some confidence in the group and we can get some momentum."
Midfielder Emily Field was superb for the Hawks, while Beppina Marshall and Georgina Hyett also played key roles. Rochelle Daley kicked three goals.
The Storm's best were Shanae Sawyer, Carnie Edlin and Angela Gamble.
Ladder leader Golden Square stretched its winning streak to 10 games when it defeated North Bendigo by 43 points.
Square won 5.15 (45) to 0.2 (2) on the back of strong performances from Gemma Free, Ella Turnbull and Amanda Carrod.
North's best included Laura Douglas, Roweena Ilsley and Alisha Lourie.
The wet conditions didn't slow Kangaroo Flat down in its clash with Kyneton.
The Roos won 18.16 (124) to 1.3 (9).
Shelby Knoll kicked a bag of six goals for the Roos and Kelly Mensforth added three, while Lily McNair and Grace Beckmans were their best players.
The Tigers were best served by Bronte Ashworth and Teagan Ainslie.
In round 11 action next Sunday, North Bendigo is at home to Eaglehawk, Kangaroo Flat hosts Golden Square in a top-of-the-table clash and Kyneton travels to Strathfieldsaye.
