Gibson won the BMW Charity Pro-Am - his first victory on the Web.com Tour.
The win secures Gibson a place on the US PGA Tour in 2020.
Gibson started the final round in South Carolina two shots off the lead, but a brilliant eight-under par 63 saw him cruise to a three-shot victory.
The 33-year-old lived in Bendigo and attended Camp Hill Primary School before his family moved to Lismore in New South Wales.
He played on the US PGA Tour in 2016 and had a best finish of tied for 25th, but lost his tour card.
"I think I'm a more well-rounded player all round. I didn't get many opportunities the year that I did have my card, but really looking forward to getting back out there,'' Gibson said after his win.
