KANGAROO has moved to strengthen its batting stocks by securing Josh Collinson as assistant coach for the upcoming BDCA season.
Spearheaded by captain Brent Hamblin, Dylan Klemm and veteran Adam Burns, bowling has been the strength of the Roos in recent seasons.
But the addition of Collinson adds some top-order class to the batting department for the Roos.
Collinson is rejoining the BDCA after last season being part of Barkers Creek's premiership team in the Castlemaine District Cricket Association.
"I enjoyed my time down at Barkers Creek, but wanted to come back and have another crack in Bendigo," Collinson said on Friday.
"I know Wayne (Stubbings, Kangaroo Flat coach) pretty well and we've spoken a fair bit about cricket. I'm only around the corner from Dower Park, so it's a good opportunity."
Kangaroo Flat is the fourth BDCA club for Collinson, who has previously played at White Hills, Huntly-North Epsom and Eaglehawk, where he was a premiership player in 2017.
Collinson's tally of 3644 runs in the BDCA at an average of 26.7 features two tons and 23 half-centuries.
"I never set out to play at so many clubs... I won't be getting any life membership awards any time soon, but I'll gladly take the life friendships I've made at all those clubs," Collinson said.
"This is another challenge I'm really looking forward to and a great opportunity because I don't think the Flat is too far away, particularly with the bowling attack they have."
The Roos have finished ninth and fifth the past two seasons since last playing finals in 2016-17.
However, their four wins last season could have easily been at least a couple more given they lost tight games against Sandhurst (four runs), Golden Square (11 runs) and Eaglehawk (12 runs).
In announcing the signing, Stubbings said Collinson "brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and energy to us. Collo is well known throughout the league, has been an outstanding player and we are very grateful to add him to the coaching staff."
