Duty forecaster Richard Russell said a stronger cold front will arrive on Wednesday.
"We are talking about possible snow falling down to 700 metres. Mount Macedon is 1000 metres so they should see some snow fall," he said.
With winter officially arriving this weekend, Mr Russell said this wee'ks cold snap is not unexpected.
"There has been an abrupt change from last week to this week but we see these cold fronts from late autumn right through into spring," he said.
But the Bendigo region won't cop the worst of the cold fronts.
"Apart from Tuesday and Wednesday Bendigo is generally escaping the cold snap. People who need a break from the showers should head north of the divide," Mr Russell said.
"It will be a miserable top of 10 in Bendigo on Wednesday with some showers but also some sunny breaks. The wind will be chilly to say the least.
"The coldest morning will be Thursday at three degrees after that cold front with a potential for frost."
Tuesday and Thursday are heading for a top of 13 in Bendigo ahead of 15 on Friday and 16 for Saturday and Sunday.
EARLIER: Mount Macedon has received its first snow fall of they year but it isn't enough to settle on the ground.
Top of the Range Cafe on Mount Macedon posted a video of the snowflakes falling and said it was a bit earlier than usual.
"This is our first of the year but usually June is when we see our first snow fall," cafe owner Luke Chapman said.
"Depending on the year we get up to half a dozen decent snows with one or two settling on the ground to the point where you can have snow fights or build snow men.
"Those falls attract tourists but any heavier than that, they close the roads."
Top of the Range also has a live snow cam which is popular with people across the region.
"Once that shows actual snow, people come out to see it and we benefit," Mr Chapman said. "Hot chocolates and scones fly out the door and the pub and the general store also do well. It's really good for the entire town.
"A couple of years ago we got people to enter their post code (on the live cam) and people from all over the state were watching and even drove an hour or two to see the snow."
Areas around Ballarat have also seen snow fall today.
