Herbert carded rounds of 74,70,73 and 75 and finished with an overall score of twelve-over par at the championship held at New York's Bethpage Black Course.
In round three he was hindered by six bogeys followed by another eight in round four.
However the top-100 was still a strong finish as several big names such as Tiger woods, Sergio Garcia and Bubba Watson failed to make the cut.
American Brooks Koepka won the tournament at eight-under par and is the first to secure back-to-back US PGA Championships since Woods in 2007.
The 2013 Masters winner Adam Scott was the top Australian of the tournament with a T8 finish.
Herbert's next event on the European Tour will be the Made in Denmark tournament to be played this week at Himmerland Golf Course, England's Matt Wallace is the defending champion.
