Despite a succession of placings, the four-year-old had gone 14 starts without a win since her maiden victory at Bendigo last December.
With Svanosio in the sulky, Severe Storm started brilliantly and led all the way, showing plenty of grit to hold off a fast-finishing Sonny Brook to win by half a neck.
The win was the mare's second in 23 career starts.
Underlining her potential, Severe Storm has finished second on six occasions, with the performance of her win at Geelong indicating a third might not be too far away for the daughter of top trotting sire Angus Hall and Yankee Princess.
Svanosio will have several chances to add to his win haul today at Horsham, where he has a number of runners engaged, including Bet Hanoverdakash, Major Manbar and Delightful Mia.
Meanwhile, Bendigo driver Ellen Tormey scored a win for Kyabram trainer Wes Shellie at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday night with Andyou.
It was Tormey's second-straight win aboard Andyou at Melton and third in six starts following their win at Shepparton on March 22.
