Bendigo has recorded its wettest day of 2019 with more than 9.2 millimetres of rain landing in the city.
The last time the region received that much rain was February 7, when 8 millimetres was recorded.
Surrounding regions also recorded strong totals with Castlemaine receiving 7.8 millimetres and Redesdale notching up 9.6 millimetres of rain on Wednesday.
The Bureau of Meteorology said more rain is expected in the region through to Thursday evening, with heavy showers predicted for the morning.
It follows the region's driest and warmest start to the year in more than a decade.
Bureau data showed Bendigo received only 3.2 millimetres of rain in April, with the majority of that total coming on a single day earlier in the month.
The city also received only 24.2 millimetres in the first quarter of 2019.
Bureau duty forecaster Chris Arvier said up to 20 millimetres of rain could fall in the region in the next couple of days.
