Two offenders wearing black hoodies and pants broke into the service station at 3am Saturday morning, Castlemaine police officer Linc Owens said.
The thieves used an older model white Toyota HiAce that had been stolen in the hours before the service station was targeted.
Police believed the van had been stolen some time between 1am and 3am from a home in Castlemaine.
Police had yet to recover the vehicle later that morning.
