The league would like to see both men's and women's matches played on the same day, in a move to bring women's football front and centre.
It was prioritised in the league's strategic plan released in 2014, and has gained even more momentum over the past five years, especially after the rise of AFLW.
However, one of the biggest challenges to overcome will be scheduling conflicts.
