Many outstanding feats on the track, field and cross-country circuit will be recognised at Friday night's awards presentation at Bendigo Club in Strathdale.
Bendigo Harriers veteran Geoff Shaw is among the contenders for the Bendigo Property Mangement-sponsored Athlete of the Year award.
Shaw won the decathlon for the 70-plus class at the World Masters Games in Spain and later in the season broke his Australian Masters record as he scored 7307 points on his way to gold in the Athletics Victoria and Australian Masters multi-event titles in Bendigo.
Shot put champion Emma Berg starred in shot put and discus at various championships.
Last weekend the Swan Hill teenager won the open shot put final at the Athletics Australia national championships in Sydney.
Highs of this season for Berg included gold in the open and under-20 shot put, and silver in the open and under-20 discus at the Victorian Championships.
Bendigo University's Andy Buchanan achieved back-to-back national cross-country 10km titles as he charged to victory on the Maleny Golf Club course on the Sunshine Coast.
Buchanan was the H.H. Hunter Athlete of the Year for 2018.
The region's strength at Masters level was shown by gold medal-winning feats by Shaw and clubmate Brett Gilligan at the AV and Australian Masters multi-event titles.
South Bendigo's Joan Self broke many records and will be in the running for the Neil Macdonald Veteran athlete of the year, as will the versatile David Chisholm from Eaglehawk AC.
