More than 20 people invaded the Carey Bros Abattoir near Warwick in southeast Queensland before dawn on Monday as part of a national day of action by animal rights activists.

AUSVEG CEO James Whiteside denounced the extreme protests and vowed to stand alongside farmers across the country.

"It is appalling that vegan activists attack our fellow agriculture producers and their livelihoods," Mr Whiteside said.

"Ausveg is supportive of freedom of choice for Australian consumers."

He said the vegan protests assumed consumers were unable to make an informed decision for themselves.

"I think this treatment of the community is highly likely to backfire on groups looking to garner public support.

"The radical views and actions of these individuals are not representative of the community, including those that are vegan."

AUSVEG said it supports the prime minister's calls for the protesters acting illegally to be met with the full force of the law.
