Refresh Skin Clinic has submitted plans with the council to extend its Apsley Street premises to accommodate about six GPs.
The existing clinic's owner and operator, Dr Alfy Ordukaya, said the $850,000 proposal stemmed from a need for services within the community.
Strathfieldsaye was home to 5428 people on the night of the 2016 census.
The population almost doubled in 10 years and is expected to reach 12,647 people by 2036.
Just over 3200 people live in the neighbouring suburb of Junortoun.
Ensuring the availability of mainstream health services was identified as a goal for the community of Strathfieldsaye 10 years ago in a community plan.
A medical practice opened in Strathfieldsaye that year and is still servicing the community.
Even if plans for another GP clinic were approved, Dr Ordukaya said medical practices would still be playing catch-up with the population growth.
"But it's a start," he said.
He envisaged the proposed clinic would be a mixed-billing practice offering bulk billing for people under the age of 16 and concession card holders.
Council received the planning application in March. Its outcome has yet to be determined.
The 2019 community plan identified a need to balance the demands of a growing suburb with Strathfieldsaye's rural character.
A town plan, which also dates back to 2009, identified the Strathfieldsaye town centre as the optimal locality for a medical centre.
