The LVFNL-based Bears proved too strong for Harcourt in the openig match of the three-day carnival before the host club North Bendigo proved too classy for BFNL side Maryborough.
Serpentine, who wore Bendigo Bombers jumpers to avoid a clash with the Lions, kept Harcourt goalless in the first half of their clash.
The Bears kicked five goals to none in the first half on their way to an 8.5 (53) to 3.8 (26) win.

Maryborough was without star recruit Stewart Crameri for its clash with the Bulldogs, but the home side proved too slick anyway.
In an ominous sign for its HDFNL rivals, North Bendigo looked very sharp and won comfortably, 11.15 (81) to 4.7 (31).
North Bendigo and BL-Serpentine meet in Saturday's second day of action, with the winner to advance to Sunday's grand final.
