BENDIGO teen cycling sensation Alessia McCaig has got her Junior National Track Championships campaign off to a flyer by smashing an Australian record.
The 15-year-old, who won four gold medals at the 2018 championships in Melbourne, set the tone for another bright showing on the track by setting a new under-17 women's 200m flying record.
Her qualifying time of 11.683 seconds bettered the previous mark of 11.824 seconds and has put her through to tonight's semi-finals.
It was one of two records to be broken on day one of the championships in Brisbane.
New South Wales rider Daniel Barber broke his own record in the under 17-men's 200m flying with a new mark of 10.724.
McCaig is one of seven Bendigo and District Cycling Club riders in the 20-member Victorian team, competing in Brisbane.
