However, the award may have been presented to Moody - but she has praised her "amazing" team for helping her earn the achievement.
"It's more of a reflection of the group I coached last year," Moody said.
"The results speak for themselves on the court.
"We had some excellent players who were just as amazing off the court too."
Moody has been involved with junior and senior Braves squads for years, and coached the team to its sixth national women's championship in the SEABL grand final.
The Braves, led by a game MVP-winning performance from star centre Gabe Richards, defeated Launceston Tornadoes by 23 points last year in the championship game.
"This award recognised the great work of the team last season," Moody said.
Moody started her career in basketball back in Melbourne as a junior, where she played with the Kilsyth Cobras.
Over the years Moody progressed through the ranks and eventually made the leap to college basketball in America and then competed in multiple European leagues.
After a knee injury Moody made the shift from player to coaching positions and hasn't looked back since.
"I love the game, it has given me so much in life," Moody said.
"So many coaches helped me get to where I am and it's great to be able to pay it forward to help the next generation of players.
"I love helping play a part in helping children fulfill the same dream.
"If you see it, you can dream it and believe it."
Moody was also pleased the award recognised the contributions of females in sport.
"We need to continue highlighting the pathway so females know there are plenty of opportunities out there for them to pursue," Moody said.
Moody's focus now is on replicating the success of 2018 in the inaugural NBL1 season which starts this weekend with the Braves taking on the Melbourne Tigers.
In addition to working with the Braves, Moody has also been an assistant coach with the WNBL Bendigo Spirit.
Bendigo basketball player Jontee Brown was also recognised for his achievements in the sport at the Basketball Victoria award ceremony.
