The 29-year-old was sentenced in February to nine years' jail after pleading guilty to manslaughter and child cruelty over the 2016 death.
However, she could could walk free in July after already serving more than two years in custody.
Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath said on Wednesday she'd requested the appeal following legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mason died five days after a blow by Lee's partner, William Andrew O'Sullivan, ruptured his small intestine.
Lee failed to get medical treatment for this injury, and also did not seek help for earlier leg and anus injuries.
O'Sullivan was jailed for nine years last year with parole eligibility set for July 2022.
Ms D'Ath has already filed an appeal against O'Sullivan's sentence as manifestly inadequate.
That matter is still before the court.
