THE TRAIN stranded this morning at Gisborne has been returned to Melbourne as maintenance workers investigate what caused the fault.
A spokesperson for V/Line apologised to passengers delayed this morning.
The fault resulted in the cancellation of the 10.20am service from Southern Cross to Bendigo, as well as the early termination of a 7.16am service from Echuca to Southern Cross.

MORE services will be replaced by coaches.
V/Line has tweeted that the 12.30pm Bendigo to Southern Cross service will not run this afternoon, nor will the 12.54pm Swan Hill to Southern Cross.

A SECOND incident with a train is causing delays on the tracks this morning.
A fault with the 7.41am service to Swan Hill has stopped the train, with V/Line scrambling to provide coaches to passengers including those heading to Bendigo.
The service is still on one of the two tracks at Gisborne.
The 10.21am service from Bendigo to Southern Cross will not run this morning.
The 7.16 Echuca to Southern Cross service has been stopped, with coaches bound for Kyneton to pick up stranded passengers. Coaches are expected to arrive within the next 30 minutes.

A TRAIN heading to Melbourne has hit a kangaroo on Wednesday morning, with delays to two services on the tracks.
The 7am Epsom to Southern Cross train was halted on the Melbourne side of Castlemaine after the strike, where V/Line staff inspected it for damage.
Passengers on the 6.16am service from Southern Cross to Bendigo were also delayed by the 'roo strike.
The affected trains have since resumed their journeys.
