BENDIGO VRI
It has been relatively quiet around the club this past week, as our Division 8 and Midweek players rest up after a long and hot season.
Our Division 7 players have one match to go before they can rest up. Expect to see a full turnout on Thursday at the 4pm training session.
We have had a new oven installed and it looks terrific. It will get its first workout with Neil and the kids today and a full workout at the end of season barbecue on Saturday, following the Grand Final.
A few players came along for social bowls last Tuesday. A mix of pairs and triples was played - two 6 bowl games of 10 ends. There was no afternoon tea break as the weather was a little threatening. Unfortunately, no rain eventuated. It was a good fun day as usual, with one of the triples teams winning and one of the pairs coming second.
If you're looking for a great afternoon of bowls with lots of fun on the side, come along to our social day on Tuesday afternoons.
The 21 up competition is drawing to an end. The last two matches between Shirley Huggard and Howard Beard and Brian Rosewall and John Dullard have been played - now Shirley and Brian will be playing off for the ultimate prize. It has been a great year for Howard and John - congratulations on a very successful season. The final should be played in the next few days. It will be a great match to watch.
The Division 7 semi-final was played at Golden Square on Saturday between White Hills and Marong. A few VRI people went along to witness a very good match between these two clubs who have both had victories over us during the season. The green had been prepared to an excellent standard. Marong were the winners and will now face Bendigo VRI in the Grand Final on Saturday. Congratulations, and good bowling to all.
There will be a barbecue at the club following the Grand Final. Please bring a salad. There is a sheet up in the club for names as well as a sheet for names for people interested in playing in the Karinya Challenge on March 24. VRI will be attempting to retain the trophy, which will be a difficult feat to achieve on the tricky synthetic Karinya green. Memorial Day will be on March 30. This is a gold letter event; please indicate your interest on the board in the club rooms.
