The regional transport provider recorded 85.9 per cent punctuality during February, exceeding the 12-month average and improving on its result of 82.7 percent from February, 2018.
This was despite 155,000 more passenger journeys on the regional network compared to the same time 12 months earlier.
PTV chief executive Jeroen Weimar said said regional services were also impacted by extreme heat, but V/Line was working hard to improve performance during record temperatures.
“Heat impacted V/Line’s performance in February," he said.
"We continue to look at ways to improve the experience for passengers on days of extreme heat, while giving them certainty with the implementation of Extreme Heat Timetables."
PTV's data for February also showed V/Line's reliability had improved from 95.4 per cent to 96.2 per cent.
Mr Weimar said there were also improved performances from Metro train services.
“Despite a difficult month on the metropolitan train network, Metro managed to keep more trains running than the previous month,” Mr Weimar said.
“Unplanned disruptions are frustrating for everyone, which is why we have increased the investment in routine maintenance and renewal across the network to improve reliability and prevent these from happening into the future.”
Yarra Trams also performed well despite a Spencer Street apartment fire and above-average temperatures impacting punctuality.
“Five days over 34 degrees during February impacted the operation of our trams,” Mr Weimar said.
