NATHAN Thompson will share 179 games worth of AFL experience with Kyneton's under-18 players this year.
Thompson has answered the Tigers' call for an under-18 coach and will lead the side in the BFNL this year.
"Obviously all clubs need a coach in this position who can develop these young players as they go through the transition into senior footy," Thompson said on Thursday.
"It will be the first time I've coached this age group, so it will be a new challenge for myself and an important one for the club to try to get right."
Thompson has previously coached Kyneton's senior team, as well as junior sides for the Tigers.
"Working with young players is great and all I'll be asking of the guys is they commit and really engage with the team and what we're trying to work on with our style of play," Thompson said.
"Effort is going to be more important than the talent they have got. If we can get a group of guys with a vision of improving as much as they can over the year then we should have a competitive season.
"Numbers are okay and I'm positive at this stage that numbers won't be an issue for us, but it comes back to wanting guys who are committed to buying into the team and what it stands for."
Kyneton's under-18s will play one practice match as part of its 2019 build-up against Macedon on Saturday, March 23.
The Tigers' first game of the season will be against Golden Square at home on Saturday, April 13.
Gisborne is the defending premier in the under-18 competition.
