The woman pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court to theft and two counts of dealing with the proceeds of crime.
The victim was skateboarding in Bull Street on October 28, 2017 and put his bag on the edge of the Vahland Fountain, from where it was stolen.
More court news:
The bag was taken into the public toilets near the courts, where the camera was removed and the bag dumped.
Less than two weeks later, the woman took the camera to a pawn shop and received a $150 loan against it.
She later retrieved the camera, but in December that year, again took out a loan against it, this time for $200.
Representing herself, the woman told the court she was trying to do better with her life now.
Magistrate Patrick Southey noted the woman was only 18 at the time of the offending and placed her on a 12-month good behaviour bond, without conviction.
