That is one of the slogans that young, passionate and positive horse trainer Anthony MacDonald from Ontario, Canada lives by.
MacDonald will be the special guest of the Bendigo Harness Racing Club at this Thursday night’s meeting at Lord’s Raceway, where he will share the secrets behind his successful harness racing syndication company The Stable.ca
MacDonald and his wife Amy started the company three years ago, and despite a slow start in their first year, The Stable.ca now has in excess of 600 individual owners involved in ownership of over 140 horses.
In Canada you are able to purchase as little as one per cent in a syndicate and hence the slogan, “Own a Little …. And Love It A Lot “.
His philosophy is focused on providing fun and excitement in owning an equine athlete and not on the gambling aspect of horse racing.
He readily acknowledges that his success is based on four simple but essential ingredients:
They are communication with owners, providing good customer service, use of modern technology and fixed costs per month.
MacDonald, who has driven more than 3000 winners in Canada, will speak at BHRC at 7pm this Thursday.
The meeting will double as the club’s major fundraiser for the Team Teal campaign, which supports awareness of ovarian cancer and the Women’s Cancer Foundation.
Harness Racing Victoria and TABCorp will donate $200 to the charity for every time a female driver wins a race, which will be matched by a $200 donation from the harness racing club and Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association.
Entry to the races is by gold coin donation.
