MORE BOWLS – Golden Square v Bendigo | PHOTOS
GOLDEN Square lifted itself off the bottom of the ladder, while continuing Bendigo’s rut in BBD weekend pennant on Saturday.
Square snapped a six-game losing streak with its 102-79 victory at home that elevated it from eighth to sixth on the ladder.
As for Bendigo, it remains in third position, but has now lost its past three games by a combined 110 shots.
The big result for Square was the strong performance of Daryl Cheeseman’s rink in comfortably accounting for Torie Babitsch 30-16.
The contest featured two match-ups that went right down to the wire, with Square’s Tas Wallis tieing 21-all with Mitch Hocking.
And there was just one shot the difference as Square’s Garri Conforti beat Andrew Brown 27-26.
• A 14-shot loss doesn’t do justice to the competitive performance of Castlemaine against Eaglehawk.
The Hawks made it 11-straight wins with their 100-86 victory at home.
However, the Maine had three rinks up, with skippers Greg Podesta (+2), Rod Phillips (+5) and Peter Brain (+1) all prevailing.
What saved Eaglehawk from being on the end of a massive upset was the continued return to form of Simon Carter’s rink, which belted Darren Taylor 35-13.
• Kangaroo Flat will head into next weekend’s final round sitting in the top four.
Facing a massive danger game away against Inglewood, the Flat gained 15 points with its 96-83 win that broke its three-game losing streak.
Despite the loss that sent Inglewood back to the bottom, there was a highlight for the Woodies with the rink of Daryl Rowley finally breaking through for its first win of the season, 25-20, against John Berry.
• South Bendigo lost its third game in a row – and its position in the top four – with a 98-70 defeat at home to Bendigo East.
The unbeaten Lee Schraner (+11), resurgent Brad Marron (+15) and Aaron Tomkins (+11) all had double-figure wins for East, whose score of 98 was only the fourth time in its 12 matches this season it hasn’t cracked 100.
