A woman has been charged and will be held on remand, Bendigo acting sergeant Mark Smeaton said.
She is expected to face court Monday.
Update, 9pm: A BENDIGO woman in her 30s has been taken into custody and is assisting police with their inquiries after a house in Strathdale was gutted by fire.
Emergency services were called to a Sibley Place address about 6pm on Friday.
The house was engulfed in flames when police arrived.
Bendigo Sergeant Mick Delaney said arson was suspected to be the cause of the fire.

A crime scene was to be in place overnight.
Sergeant Delaney said fire investigators would attend and survey the scene in the morning.
He said paramedics treated a number of people nearby for smoke inhalation, but there were otherwise no injuries.
EARLIER: Emergency services are currently at the scene of a house fire in Sibley Place, Strathdale.
There is smoke billowing from the area and it will be visible from nearby streets.
Entry to Sibley Place has been closed at the Crook Street end and people should avoid the area if possible to allow emergency services to respond.
Fire fighters, paramedics and police are currently on the scene.
