Bendigo Canoe Club members paddled against some of the state’s best at the Saltwater Classic 2019.
BCC’s Ebony Smith, 14, teamed up with Arnie Shanahan, 15, to compete at the Classic on the Maribyrnong River.
The pair finished in second position in the TC2 Open Mixed Class over 12km.
Marian Blake also competed at the Classic and teamed up with Joanne Davis.
The pair finished in first position in the V45 TK2 class over 12km.
“All of the the canoeists at the Classic were very happy this year as canoe entries were up in comparison to previous years,” Blake said.
“Which included a good number of youth and ladies paddling this year.”
The Saltwater Classic is held each year, with competitors travelling from across the state to participate.
The event – hosted by the Footscray Canoe Club – included a range of race distances across multiple age group entry categories.
The classic is one of five canoe grand prix races overseen by the Paddle Victoria Marathon committee.
The next race of the GP series will be hosted by the Mitta Mitta Canoe club.
