Bendigo East finished third of 28 teams in the overall combined teams point score with 988 points. It was the club’s best performance in many years.
The team consisted of Olivia Boef, Hunter Boswell, Layla Day, April Downing, Ella Downing, Harry Downing, Lily Eldridge, Veda Haines, Thomas Hawke, Tyson Jelbart, Cameron Jordan, James Kealy, Emily Kearns, Nicholas Kearns, Lily-May Kirby, Zalli Lau, Ziggy Lau, Lincoln McKern, Nathan McKern, Xavier Morrissey, Claudia Mountjoy, Varlee Nihill, Zara Paul, Bryce Schubert, Riley Sterenberg, Milla Tzaros and Sebastian Wood.
Layla Day had a stellar performance with six individual medals, including gold in the women’s 100m backstroke and five silver medals.
Young gun Cameron Jordan made eight finals, with six individual medals, including gold medals in the men’s 200m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke, 16-17-year-old 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.
Hunter Boswell claimed a gold medal in the boys 12-year-old 100m backstroke.
Lily Eldridge made four individual finals, winning gold in the girls 14-15-year-old 100m breaststroke.
Emily Kearns won the girls 13-year-old 100m backstroke, while Nicholas Kearns grabbed gold in the boys 11-and-under 50m freestyle.
Bendigo East had a fantastic result in the team relay events with 11 top 5 finishes and five medals.
In the mixed 200m medley, the team of Layla Day, Cameron Jordan, Emily Kearns and Bryce Schubert won a gold medal.
The team also finished with an event record time, and the win was even more exciting as the team that came in second place had two past Olympic swimmers in the four-person line up.
In the girls 16-and-under 200m freestyle relay, Bendigo East’s Layla Day, Lily Eldridge, Emily Kearns and Zalli Lau won gold.
