THE finale to the Bendigo Country Week cricket carnival will be played on a scorcher of a day on Friday in which the heat policy will be envoked.
A forecast top of 45 is predicted for Bendigo on Friday, meaning the carnival’s three finals will start earlier and be reduced overs.
The division one final will be fought out between defending champions Murray Valley and Goulburn Murray for the third-straight year at the QEO.
Starting times have been brought forward from 10am to 9am, games have been reduced from 50 overs to 35 overs per side, and extra drinks breaks will be included.
“By reducing the overs and starting at 9am, we expect that the games will be over by 2.15pm,” Bendigo District Cricket Association president Wayne Walsh said on Thursday.
“With our duty of care to the players we are very conscious of the extreme heat and that we’ve had hot temperatures all week.”

The Bendigo Country Week heat policy is envoked on days where the forecast is at least 42 degrees.
“We discussed the heat policy at our meeting on Monday night and it’s something we’ll look at again for next year,” Walsh said.
“We’ll go ahead and play on Friday with the changes that will allow the games to be done by just after 2pm with the reduced overs.”
The division two final will be played between Grassmere and Colac, while the division three decider will be contested between Maryborough and Northern United.
