Self and Eaglehawk’s David Chisholm added to this season’s record-breaking spree at the La Trobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Retreat Road.
Self’s time of 19.73 seconds in the 80m hurdles broke the centre record for the 60-plus class.
A mark of 19.82 metres at javelin is a new centre record for 60-plus.
Chisholm’s build-up to next weekend’s Victorian Country titles to be run from Saturday until Monday included a brilliant time of 17.75 in the 100m hurdles.
The Hawks’ ace now holds the centre record for the 50-plus class.
There were plenty of contenders in the various field events.
Best at long jump were Eaglehawk’s Lachlan Start, 6.30m; Harriers’ James Miller, 5.90m; and the Borough’s Corey Heagney, 5.44m.
At shot put, James Bentley reached a mark of 10.35m to win flight one from Monique Gavriliadis of Bendigo Harriers on 10.23m.
At javelin, Miller achieved the day’s best of 46.07m.
Start and University’s Anthony Messerle had a great duel which ended with marks of 45.88m, and 43.79m.
Eaglehawk’s sprint stars will play a key role in the club’s quest to retain the Margaret Saunders Cup as the number one club at the country titles.
On Saturday, Laura Kadri won the first of the 100m heats in 13.50 seconds.
A classy field contested the first of the men’s 100m heats.
The centre record holder for under-17, 18, 20 and open level, Eaglehawk’s Kye Mason raced
to victory in 11.50 seconds as South Bendigo’s Jake Hilson was runner-up in 12.02.
It was a sprint double for Laura Kadri as she took out the first of the 400m heats in 63.16 from South Bendigo’s Keely Trew, 65.23.
Hilson won the first of the 400m in 50.73 from Eaglehawk’s Jamie Harrison, 50.73, and James Bentley, 52.83.
University’s Jayden Padgham blitzed in the first of the 1500m heats in 4:52 as Glenhuntly’s Rebecca Beagley was next in 4:58.
Harriers’ veteran Peter Cowell beat the 19:50 mark in the 5000m contest.
