The main burst at 9am covering Mitchell Street, near the Mollison Street roundabout.
Coliban Water are yet to establish an estimate of when the water service will be restored.
Staff at the scene estimated it could up to take four hours to repair the damage.
Some customer may experience an interruption to their water service or low pressure until the service is restored.
Traffic Management is ensuring cars heading down Mitchell Street, toward the city are being diverted away. Buses are being let through.
Water is still running strongly but is not covering the street anymore.
