UPDATE, 10.30am: All lanes are now open on the Calder Freeway following this morning’s incident.
A lane was closed along part of the freeway this morning after a came off the road and took out about 100 metres of wire rope barrier.
VicRoads has now cleared the scene. Police left earlier this morning.
EARLIER: Part of the Calder Freeway’s southbound lane may be closed temporarily as crews remove a vehicle from a wire rope barrier, police say.
The BT 50 came off the freeway this morning for unknown reasons, Leading Senior Constable Wayne Cairnes said.
The incident took place at 5am, he said, between Harcourt and Elphinstone.
The car hit and mounted the centre median wire rope barriers, becoming wedged with two wheels off of the ground.
“Because it’s a large vehicle and it has got about a ton of wood in it we are just waiting on heavy haulage to come,” LSC Cairnes said.
Related:
“We want a crane to lift the car off the cables.”
“So there will be some single lane closures today, just for a short period of time I hope.”
The driver was not injured in the crash.
