The Stephen O’Donoghue-trained gelding is one of three pacers contesting the $70,000 Group 2 feature, to have featured during the recent Inter Dominion series in Melbourne, alongside the Gary Lawlor-trained Bad Billy and Tim Butt-trained Let It Ride.
A quality cup field will also include a pair of horses trained locally by Glenn Douglas (Strathfieldsaye) and Graeme Dalton (Sutton Grange).
Douglas will attempt victory with Bernie Winkle, who will start as one of the outsiders in the field, but has drawn favourably on the pole, while Dalton has accepted with recent Ballarat winner Animated, who was second in last November’s Gunbower Cup.
Bendigo Harness Racing Club general manager Erik Hendrix said the club was delighted with the quality of the fields for the 2650m cup and the meeting’s other feature, the $50,000 Group 1 Maori Mile (1609m).
A family-oriented evening at Lord’s Raceway will include free admission for children, with adults gaining entry for a gold coin donation, supporting Righteous Pups Australia.
Hendrix said not only would there be sensational action on the track, it would be replicated by a host of off-track entertainment.
“We have a great night planned with several food trucks, live music and heaps of kids activities to complement what is set to be a great nights racing,” he said.
“A free Kid Zone has been set up including Laser Tag, jumping castle, a water slide, face painting, Hero Horses to visit, and the first 100 kids through the gates receiving a free show bag too.
“By providing free entry and supporting a wonderful charity in Righteous Pups Australia, we’re looking to members of the community and holiday makers to help us break our attendance record.
“There is plenty of lawn alongside the home straight available for family to bring a rug and be close to the action”.
Patrons will also have the opportunity to win a huge range of prizes in the Cup Field Mega-Draw, to be conducted as a sweep on the cup race.
The first of 10 races on cup night will be run at 6.32pm, with the Maori Mile scheduled for 8.30pm and the Bendigo Pacing Cup at 9.30pm.
