In conjunction with Parks Victoria Grampians visitor and community ranger Connor Smith, here is a list of nine of the top things to do in the Grampians this summer.
What’s On: Holidays
Mr Smith said while the Grampians is a great place to explore, it is important people take care.
“Please be responsible for your safety when out in the park; Prepare, make good choices, and take responsibility for the cultural and natural environment you are in,” he said.
1. Join a ranger for Junior Ranger activity (children aged 6-12)
“Rangers are offering a variety of children’s activities in the Grampians, as well as one in Deep Lead and another in Albion Bushland Reserve (Stawell),” Mr Smith said.
Activities range from Grampians Minibeast Discovery, tracks and traces, learning Bush Skills, to a Bike Scavenger hunt to name a few. More information is available on the Junior Ranger website.
2. Go on a Ranger guided walk (kids 12-adult)
Rangers will be taking visitors on guided walks at various locations over the summer holidays.
“Venture into the historic Heatherlie Quarry, take a walk through Box Ironbarks, learn about the Grampians during a stroll at Reed Lookout, or step back into the world of Walter Zumstein at Zumsteins picnic area,” Mr Smith said.

3. Cool down and take a dip at Lake Bellfield (or Fyans or Lonsdale for that matter)
A great place to relax on a warm summer day.
4. Walk to the top of Mt. William for sunrise or sunset
Beautiful views in a beautiful part of the park.
5. Walk to the Pinnacle
“Be sure to bring plenty of water, wear sturdy shoes, and be SunSmart,” Mr Smith said.
6. Walk from Zumsteins to MacKenzie Falls and back
7. Hike up Mt Abrupt or Mt Sturgeon
“Can then head to Dunkeld for lunch,” Mr Smith said.
“Again, be sure to bring plenty of water, wear sturdy shoes, and be SunSmart.”
8. Brambuk
“Watch the creation story, then head out into the Park to view some of the Park’s Aboriginal rock art shelters.”
9. Come to the Sherpa Volunteer training day
“If you have a passion for the outdoors and enjoy assisting others, come to Brambuk on the February 2 at 10AM and become a trail-rider all terrain wheelchair operator so you can assist others in getting out into the Park.”
