Matthew Rowlands organised the lunch by the lake within just a few days, after realising there was not a lot available in Bendigo for people who went without company or even food in the festive season.
Mr Rowlands said about 50 people attended the event, which went off without a hitch.
One of the best things, he said, was seeing people who did not know each other sit down together, chat and enjoy each other’s company.
Mr Rowlands said the lunch had achieved its goal of bringing people together at Christmas.
None of the food went to waste – all leftovers were given at the end of the day to those who attended.
The lunch was such a success that Mr Rowlands plans to do it again – but with a little more time for planning.
He hopes to make the next lunch more family-orientated, and take the whole event up a notch.
