Competitors from all over Australia – and as far away as Zimbabwe – will show off their skill in traditional Highland games.
The gathering proudly claims to be the only one in Australia which includes all the traditional events seen in a Scottish gathering.
It’s even got a few events held nowhere else.
Highland Society sports secretary Nick Weaver said the Girl on the Drum Spectacular was unique to Maryborough.
In it, a young girl dances, balanced on a drum held aloft by three men. Her performance is accompanied by a troupe of Highland dancers on the ground before her.
It’s a spectacle the crowd loves.
Mr Weaver said the Highland Gathering brought the community of Maryborough together, and always surprised visitors.
“It’s just a great event for the town. We probably get a crowd of five or six thousand,” Mr Weaver said.
“There isn't an event like ours. We’re the only event that has everything here.”
Maryborough Highland Gathering includes Scottish dancing, bands, a parade, pipes and drum band and carnival rides.
The Gathering begins at 10am at Princes Park, Maryborough. To find out more, visit: highlandsociety.com.au/.
