A dual code Halloween-themed race meeting, run at Lord’s Raceway on October 30, raised $2000 for the Country Fire Authority.
Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association manager Troy Harley said the clubs had worked hard on cementing themselves in the community through charity initiatives.
He said supporting the CFA was a ‘no-brainer’ for both clubs.
“Most of participants dwell on properties in rural areas where you certainly need the assistance of the CFA – things happen from time to time in terms of bushfires and obviously preparing for what’s shaping as an ordinary fire season,” he said.
“So we want to support someone we know gives back to the community and deserves as much help as they can get.”
An appreciative CFA District 2 operations manager Ashley Baker, who attended the family-oriented race night, said the funds would be distributed among the district’s smaller brigades.
“There are some brigades on the outskirts of our area who probably struggle to raise the funds that some of our bigger brigades do, so this will go towards equipment to assist them in their duties,” he said.
“Our volunteers do a great job in assisting their communities in their times of need and will really appreciate this gesture.”
More than 2000 people attended the dual code meeting, which incorporated a combined 23 races.
