The temporary green space, complete with bright seating and artwork, was enjoyed by many yesterday as Bendigo band Groove Juice completed the mood with uplifting tunes.
The space is the result of consultation with retailers and the community and is designed to re-energise the central section of Hargreaves Mall and encourage people to visit more and stay a little longer.
City of Greater Bendigo mayor Margaret O’Rourke said the new installation in Hargreaves Mall was one of the key actions in the Transforming the City Centre Action Plan.
“As a result of the close consultation with retailers and the community, innovative and creative ways were regarded as highly-effective methods to attract more people, more often to the city centre, and to give them a reason to stay longer,” she said.
“Using the public space well is a vital ingredient for any successful city.
“It is bold and unique which will add a lot of fun, vibrancy and colour in the central area of the mall.”
