Police are investigating after the driver of a car rear-ended in Miller Street early Sunday afternoon tested positive for drugs.
The Bendigo Highway Patrol’s Paul Lethlean said the driver of a silver Honda CRV was waiting, with her indicator on, to turn right into Havlin Street East when a probationary driver in a blue Ford Falcon failed to see her.
The P-plater has been issued with a penalty notice, while police are awaiting a follow-up drug test for the non-offending driver.
Senior Constable Lethlean was frustrated neither driver had car insurance, saying it was the case for many of crashes police attended.
“It’s no help to anyone. For the sake of $120 for third-party insurance, both drivers have lost their cars,” he said.
In instances like this, Senior Constable Lethlean said drivers often struggled to find the money to pay for damage.
Update, 2pm:
Paramedics have taken one woman in her 20s to the Bendigo hospital for further assessment following the crash.
She was being treated for chest and neck soreness following the incident, an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.
Three other people in their 20s, a woman and two men, were also treated at the scene, the spokesperson said.
