Michael Llewellyn, 32, was sentenced in the County Court in Bendigo on Thursday after pleading guilty to trafficking methamphetamine and possessing methamphetamine.
The offending was discovered when police searched his home in March 2017 while investigating other alleged matters.
Police officers found a small amount of a crystalline substance and a ledger outlining drug sales.
Llewellyn had made sales of 400 individual points of methamphetamine, worth about $20,000.
Judge Irene Lawson sentenced Llewellyn to a term of six months’ imprisonment, three months to be served on top of his current sentence.
Llewellyn is already serving a minimum jail term of two years on nine charges, which include two counts of recruiting a child to engage in criminal activity.
Judge Lawson noted Llewellyn had “quite an extensive” criminal history dating back to 2004, including three stints in prison.
She said Llewellyn’s “raging methamphetamine addiction” explained his offending to some extent, but did not excuse it.
She took into account Llewellyn’s early guilty plea and that he had acknowledged his wrongdoing.
“I am also satisfied now you are genuinely remorseful about your offending,” Judge Lawson said.
Llewellyn had also demonstrated a shift in his thinking, she said.
“You are a person who does have great promise,” Judge Lawson said.
Llewellyn finished year 12, was a talented football and did a electrical apprenticeship, she said, but had squandered his early opportunities.
“Your story illustrates how pernicious addiction to methamphetamine can be,” she said.
Judge Lawson warned Llewellyn he had to commit to remaining drug-free upon his release, to avoid ending up in jail again and becoming institutionalised, an outcome she said would be tragic.
Llewellyn was supported in court by his parents.
