‘It’ was about our changing climate and students
While I don’t want to get into a slanging match with Mrs. Leach (Rally not “open to debate”, Bendigo Advertiser, December 8) I didn't realise that I had to be so precise in my comments “learning” about it (whatever “it” may be).

It was clear that the story was about climate change and the students are learning about climate change, and that is what their rallies are about.
That’s right, teachers do have direct contact with students but to lay the blame on teachers that it is all their fault is quite bizarre to say the least. They have a curriculum to follow and adhere to they just can’t go off on a tangent and do what ever they like. Some schools even teach politics by specialised teachers. You ask what do the students want the Prime Minister to do?

They are asking for direction, leadership on this topic get a policy to deal with climate change is that so hard to do? It is true that climate change can be a number of issues, but the statement is made that anthropogenic change is a matter for discussion which is not happening.
And when looking at the meaning of anthropogenic, a comment made is a hole in the ozone layer in which we have known for some time.
It has been interesting to read more comments supporting the students than against them. That defeated Liberal member John Pesutto in the seat of Hawthorn’s daughter has spoken about her involvement in the student rallies speaks for itself.
Finally your last paragraph of hysterics appears strongly to be of right-wing negativity, not really prepared for a genuine discussion on the issue of climate change.

Brumbies should hold a place of ‘heritage value’
THE Barmah Forest is the home of the Barmah brumbies. Young Australian Anzacs released their horses into the forest before they went to war and it must be declared a place of National Heritage Value, (section 324D Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (Cth)
The Brumbies hold a place in “heritage value” as a natural and cultural, historic and socially significant aspect for current and future generations of Australia"
The Commonwealth of Australia and the State of Victoria must collaborate to ensure this happens and rally to support those that wish to protect this iconic species.
There must be Legislative reform to protect the brumbies from further slaughter by declaring they hold heritage value. Parks Victoria are interfering with community values by restraining those who wish to save the brumbies from destruction by not allowing them to be fed, notwithstanding the brumbies are landlocked in a flooded wetland area.
The brumbies have been in the forest for over 170 years, well before it was decided to flood the area. This destruction must not be allowed to happen. “Heritage value” of a place includes the place’s natural and cultural environment having aesthetic, historic, scientific or social significance, or other significance, for current and future generations of Australians.
The young Anzacs who left for war and released their horses into the forest – many who never returned – could never have imagined their horses would be left to starve.
