Jon Parker was forced to return to Bendigo Primary Care on Monday morning to ask the receptionist to reverse his vehicle, allowing him to access it.
Mr Parker parked in the bay at Bendigo Primary Care Centre, before heading to an appointment. Upon his return he found a car wedged between two adjacent accessible spots.
Space to the right side of his ute is critical for Mr Parker to load and unload his wheelchair.
To allow Mr Parker to leave the car park, a receptionist from Bendigo Primary Care had to reverse the car out.
Mr Parker was “peeved” by the incident, but not surprised. Problem parking is a daily occurrence for him.
“It happens on a daily basis. Mentally it’s...draining,” he said.
The town is full of elderly people and those with disabilities, but with not nearly enough accessible parking, Mr Parker said.
CEO of Bendigo Primary Care Glen Careedy described the incident as “odd”, saying he had never seen anything like it.
The organisation more commonly faces the problem of people who are not patients taking up patients’ spots.
The organisation had already applied to the hospital for two additional accessible car parks, which are yet to be painted up.
