Clean up around your house, make sure you’ve got your Code Red fire emergency day plans in place – grab bag, escape route, where you’ll go, when to leave.
To get you ready for when the sparks fly local Country Fire Authority brigades are running open days, street corner meetings and demonstrations in the next months.
Even if you’ve been to an event before, it pays to head along for a refresher as every fire season is different.

Golden Square Fire Brigade Open Day
Golden Square fire brigade will opening its doors to the community to check out the fire station and learn about fire safety on Sunday, November 25. The day will include demonstrations, fire prevention information, Captain Koala, colouring for kids, other emergency services and information on how to join. A sausage sizzle will be held, with drinks available from the “Coffee to a Tea” van.

Maiden Gully Fire Brigade Open Day
The Maiden Gully fire brigade will be holding its annual CFA open day on Sunday, November 25 at the fire station in Beckhams Road. Brigade volunteers will welcome community members and show off the station, vehicles and facilities. It is an opportunity to chat about your personal summer fire preparations while watching a range of demonstrations. A special visitor will be the 37 metre high Bronto ladder platform truck from Bendigo. Other community groups will also be present. Bring your family and enjoy a free sausage sizzle. You can even learn how to put out a fire on your stove, get to use a fire extinguisher, check out the little red fire truck and get to meet Captain Koala! Activities run between 10 am and 1pm.
Captain David Mustey said that Maiden Gully had a very supportive community and Sunday was an opportunity for everyone to come along and see what their brigade is all about.
“We would like to see whole families drop in to enjoy a free sausage sizzle and have some fun learning about fire safety and help us celebrate 20 years service to the community”, he said.
The Brigade also reminds residents that all green waste is now accepted at the Eaglehawk landfill for free. This makes it much easier to prepare your home as you can no longer burn off as the fire restrictions came in to force on Monday, October 22.

Fire Ready Victoria
It’s time to get ready for the fire season, with a long, hot, dry summer predicted which increases the bushfire risk.
Fire Ready Victoria events, including brigade open days, are being held across central Victoria through until January.
These sessions are a chance find out the must-have information for this fire season – even if you’ve been to one before the conditions change each year.
This will be a good time to share views and experiences on managing fire risk, and make contacts or pool resources. The events provide an opportunity to speak to CFA about:
· How and where bush, grass or scrub fires are likely to start and spread around your local area
· The most essential decisions you and your family need to make
· How to stay informed should a fire start and threaten
· Tips and updates to help you start or review your fire plan
