The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting that we are about to get snow.
Yes, snow in November. Alpine areas and anywhere above 1000m could get a dusting of the white stuff on Wednesday – which puts Mt Macedon in the frame
It’s also shaping up to be a wet, soggy and humid Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday.
The fascinators and their owners could be running for cover – or taking shelter underneath an umbrella.
The BOM is forecasting a 90 percent chance of showers and the chance of thunderstorms trackside. The rain should start around 1am and continue through until around 10am before it eases heading into the afternoon. If you’re looking at the guide, you might like to choose your bets accordingly.

The weather is unlikely to dampen the spirits of racegoers – they are out for a good time and a little bit of precipitation won’t stop them. The champagne will be sipped, the food nibbled, the bets applied and dreams realised or dashed.
The weather also won’t break any records. The hottest cup day in Melbourne was 35.1C in 1902, the coldest was 11C in 1913 and the wettest was 46.5mm in 1942. On Tuesday it’s forecast to reach 20C.
If you’re partying elsewhere in the state, keep an eye on the skies. There is a severe weather warning for flash flooding in central Victoria and most parts east. Torrential rain and embedded thunderstorms are headed our way. So a brolly and/or poncho may be a last-minute addition to your cup-day outfits.
Everybody from the BOM to the fire services have warned there is tumultuous weather ahead – and lightning strikes will be a risk over the next few days as the land is tinder dry. It’s forecast to be a long, hot summer, so enjoy the wet weather and cooler temperatures while you can. Odds on it won’t last.
