The towering milk crate construction appeared on Wednesday night in support of a Scouting Open Day at the venue on Saturday. The open day runs from 10am – 4pm.
“Crate Man has never been part of the Scouts,” one of the Bendigo figure’s makers said.
“From what we’ve heard from this scouting group, they do a lot of good work in Eaglehawk.”
1st Eaglehawk Scouts group leader, Jacqui Kay said all the scout groups in the Bendigo region had grown this year.
She said the Eaglehawk group was no exception, with a joey scout mob starting on November 6.
Joey scouts are between five and seven years of age.
The group has 15 cubs, who are aged seven – 10; and 15 scouts, between the ages of 10 – 14.
Leaders are in training at all levels of scouting in Eaglehawk.
Asked why she thought the scouting was becoming more popular, Miss Kay said ‘it’s a great thing for the kids’.
“It’s a youth-led organisation and the older they get, the more involved they are with programming,” she said.
The 1st Eaglehawk Scouts Hall is at 47 Simpsons Road, Eaglehawk.
Crate Man’s previous appearance, last month, was in support of the Bendigo Comedy Festival.
Its makers fashioned the words ‘Ha Ha’ out of crates and propped them next to flags in Rosalind Park promoting the event. A Crate Man rounded out the letters, with one arm pointing across the park.
The installation was removed within less than a day.
Crate Man’s makers were hopeful the latest appearance outside the scouts hall would last until the open day.
