The J Van Jubilee will celebrate the vehicle’s 70th birthday and have about a dozen vans from South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia on display.
Organiser Peter Bateman said Australia has some of the oldest “close-to” original vans that were made around 1949.
“Bendigo is moderately central to the group. We’re expecting about 10 vans to come up from Melbourne,” he said.
“If we can get 12 vans it will be the largest number of J-types together in Australia for about 35 years. They’re rare.”
The vans were used as delivery vans with Mr Bateman believing the friendly design one of the main reasons for their popularity.
“People of all ages love them. (The vans) look as thought they have a face and they’re not overly huge. They’re quite human in their size,” he said.
