Castlemaine upstaged Eaglehawk by just two shots, Golden Square edged out Inglewood by four shots, while South Bendigo defeated Kangaroo Flat by 10 shots.
Reigning premier Bendigo East started the season with a comfortable 17-shot win over Bendigo.
