There were activities to appeal to both seasoned and novice beekeepers with countless stalls and sales as well as hive demonstrations, extracting honey sessions and a beginners corner.
Australian Apiarists Association Bendigo branch president Rob Gardner said it was a fantastic day.
“Attendance wise, it was beyond anything we have had before,” he said. “We printed 500 booklets and they were all gone.
“There were a lot of newcomers, you can tell by the number of registering with the Victorian Apiarists Association for the first time.”
Mr Gardner said the open hive and honey extraction demonstrations were very popular.
“A lot of people inquired about the open hive demonstrations. We had three of those,” he said.
“The demonstrations of extracting honey were really suitable for backyard beekeepers.”
