A NEW academy program will be introduced next year with the aim of providing support to football coaches across the region.
The CoachAFL Central Victoria Coaching Academy to be led by a committee featuring former Eaglehawk coach Luke Monaghan, former South Bendigo coach Danny O’Bree, former Bendigo Pioneers coach Mark Ellis and AFL Central Victoria development manager Shane Koop will begin in February next year and be run over 12 sessions.
The mission statement of the academy is to “develop coaches in a quality learning environment with the aim of positively impacting the standards of all levels of football throughout the AFL Central Victoria region.”
“It’s essential we ensure our coaches are resourced and supported throughout their coaching journey,” Koop said.
“Upskilled and knowledgeable coaches are more likely to be retained in our game and more likely to impact the standard of play over a longer period.
“Players are supported and their playing pathway is transparent. It’s imperative this is also created for our coaches.”
The coaching academy will utilise AFL clubs, AFL/AFLW coaches and assistant coaches, VFL/VFLW coaches, the Bendigo Pioneers and many experienced regional coaches, who will facilitate a range of practical and theoretical sessions.
“Coaches play essential roles within our sport connecting people to the game, skill development, player retention, directing players through the pathway, representing the community on the weekends… the list goes on,” Koop said.
