The fourth annual National Bird Week tally, starting October 22, is definitely not for the birds, with scientists aiming to top two million responses using a specially designed app.
Last year backyard birdwatchers recorded more than 578 species, with the Rainbow Lorikeet, Noisy Miner and Australian Magpie remaining Australia's most counted birds.
