The man in his 20s recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.149 – three times the legal limit.
He pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday to drink driving and speeding.
Police spotted him driving at 66 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone on Moran Street in North Bendigo at 1.30am on May 20.
He admitted to drinking four VB stubbies and two Vodka Cruisers after playing in a football match the previous afternoon.
The man told police he had got McDonald’s and “just wanted to get home” to Epsom.
Magistrate Megan Aumair said the actions had put the community at risk.
“You made a very, very, very bad mistake,” she said.
His licence was cancelled for 14 months with a mandatory condition for a drink-driver interlock device.
He was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond and ordered to pay $300 to the court fund.
