The Robin Clark Making a Difference Award recognised BDAC’s work on a pilot program which saw up to 15 children on Children’s Court protection orders successfully managed by the organisation.
The pilot played an integral role in the implementation of the Aboriginal Children in Aboriginal Care reforms, formerly referred to as Section 18 in recognition its place in the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005.
BDAC’s award was one of 13 presented last night during a ceremony in Melbourne, and one of two named in honour of Robin Clark.
The ‘Robin Clark Making a Difference’ accolade recognises ‘an exceptional contribution to directly improve the lives of non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal children, young people and families in Victoria’.
Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos congratulated everyone recognised at the awards.
“You are playing such a vital role in the lives of these young people and their families,” she said.
“There is no greater calling than protecting vulnerable children and while it can be challenging, it is our collective responsibility to keep children safe.”
The awards coincide with National Child Protection Week.
